Pug Dog .. Pugs are an amazing dog breed with a unique appearance and personality. This makes them one of the most sought-after dogs in the world today. They’re small and stocky, with large heads, prominent muzzles, and wrinkles around their eyes.

Their round cheeks and big eyes make pugs seem like puppies forever – kind of like small koalas or red pandas. What sets these dogs apart from all other breeds is their wrinkly face and large soulful eyes that give them a permanent sad look.

But don’t let their appearance fool you; Pug Dogs are as lovable as they look! They’re intelligent, affectionate, goofy characters that adore playing games and being involved in whatever you do. Let’s take a closer look at what pugs need from you to be healthy happy dogs.

What to know before getting a Pug Dog

Pugs are a very healthy breed with few health issues, though you’ll want to keep an eye on these:

Muggy fur. Pugs have a double coat of fur (like Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes), which protects them from cold weather – and they even have a warm undercoat! However, they don’t shed very much, so their fur can get quite muggy (think of a wet towel left in a humid room). This can lead to yeast infections and skin irritation.

Skin allergies. Pugs can be allergic to grass and other common allergens, so stay on top of your dog’s skin and coat to catch an allergic reaction before it becomes a bigger problem.

Slipped discs. Pugs have a slightly hunched posture, which gives them a cute look, but it also can lead to slipped discs in the neck. This is an injury to the spinal column that can be quite painful. Avoid it by keeping your pug fit and healthy.

Exercise for your Pug Dog

Pug Dogs are a breed that doesn’t need an extensive amount of daily exercise. They are naturally a little lazy and typically sleep a lot. They can’t go jogging or partake in any strenuous exercise, but they enjoy a good walk and play session every day. You can also engage your pug in some indoor games or adventure walks.

If you’re new to dog ownership, you’ll want to take a few things into consideration before deciding how much exercise your dog needs. You want to make sure you’re not overdoing it and stressing your dog out, but you also don’t want to under-exercise your dog and cause them to become bored and anxious.

Food for your Pug Dog

Pugs love food and have irresistible begging skills. It is important to understand this to avoid your Pug being obese. Pug owners should avoid rich, fatty foods, which can lead to pancreatitis.

Get your pug on a high-quality, grain-free diet that has been tested and proven to be safe and healthy for dogs. You might also want to consider a raw food diet, which is especially good for sensitive stomachs and can give your dog a more balanced and nutritious diet.

The one thing all pugs need

Pug Dog owners need to be aware of their dog’s breathing and make sure it’s not labored or wheezy. Pugs tend to have a problem with their respiratory system and snore more than most other breeds.

At times, their breathing may become labored, especially when they’re excited or hot. If you notice this, make sure to do something about it. If nothing is done about it, the situation can worsen and lead to a more serious health issue. You can help your pug calm down by removing them from the situation that’s making them excited and hot. Then, provide your pug with some water and help them cool down.

A crate for your Pug Dog

Pug Dogs are a breed that loves to be indoors and be part of everything you’re doing. You can easily end up with a spoiled and overweight pug if you don’t have a crate for your pug that they can use when you’re not at home.

Crates give your pug a safe and private space that they can retreat to and relax while you’re at work or otherwise occupied. It can also help with training and behavior problems, especially when paired with a good crate pad. It’s a small investment that can pay off big!

Conclusion

Overall, pugs are a fun and affectionate breed that is great for novice dog owners. They don’t require extensive amounts of exercise or attention, which makes them a great choice for people who work long hours or have busy social calendars.

However, it’s important for new pug owners to understand what pugs need from them, like proper diet and regular veterinary check-ups, to ensure their pugs are healthy and happy.
