⮚ Conduct the initial and annual psycho-social assessments and create a plan on the
agreed issues to work on with the youth.
⮚ Record professional assessments, identified problems using specific guidelines and
assessment tools and progress notes.
⮚ Meet and provide counselling sessions to the youth who express emotional distress
and/or any other mental health issues; on a needed basis collaborate with the clinic
⮚ Implement/run different support groups for both the youth and family mother,
when and as needed.
Health promotion and Safety
⮚ Collaborate with other members of the health care team (clinic and public health) to
facilitate quality children’s medical care.
⮚ Provide psycho-education and professional counselling.
⮚ Ensure the family environment meets the appropriate health & safety standards in
the Village, according to the ASYV philosophy.
⮚ Proactively receive updates on each child’s personal background, progress, analyse
and anticipate challenges
COUNSELOR VACANT POSITION
⮚ Coordinate individual evaluation with other concerned educators in regard to
children’s progress and also oversee the implementation of its action plan.
⮚ Through periodic advisory meetings, work with children to prepare them for a
resilient future, in line with the educational philosophy of The ASYV, with emphasis
on personal growth and psycho-social aspects.
⮚ Work closely with the family mothers to prepare and organise educative family
times, define roles and responsibilities of family members to promote family
⮚ Work with family mothers to stay up to date on every child’s relationship with their
relatives, address issues that may arise within this relationship, and provide
professional follow up in the best interest of the child
⮚ Collaborate with family mothers to initiate visits with children’s relatives.
⮚ Regularly enjoy breakfast with kids
⮚ Work closely with the Learning & Development coordinator (L&DC) to Identify and
assess the skills gap among the family-based educators, support the designing of a
professional development plan and participate in its implementation.
⮚ Develop curriculum for parental wholeness programs
⮚ Develop and provide parenting and counseling workshops for family-based
⮚ Advise and provide guidance to family-based educators on addressing different
disciplinary issues using the DNA approach.
⮚ Provide emotional support to family mothers
⮚ Organize and conduct a weekly grade parenting support group
⮚ Organize and conduct one on one parental coaching session with a family mother
Participate in work organization and capacity building activities
⮚ Submits reports, statistical documentation of work performed in conformity with
departmental and M&E requirements where applicable.
⮚ Participate in service and education related meetings
Perform other related duties as required by superiors
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
✓ Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Psychology, Counselling, Mental health
Practices or any other related profession
✓ At least five years of professional experience with children and youth.
✓ Able to communicate in English, Kinyarwanda and French.
✓ Knowledge of using the computer i.e. word and Excel

team work abilities, and administrational proficiency.

✓ Must be willing to live in the village and be available outside working hours.
