Small Size Dogs: Dogs can be a good addition to any family. When it comes to choosing the right dog breed for your family, factors such as size may be necessary to consider.

For example, if you live in a small apartment and don’t have enough space for large dogs to play around, a small dog is your best choice. Some rescue organizations won’t allow you to own a relatively large dog if you do not have enough outer space for it to run around.

Small Size Dogs

So if you’re looking for Small Size Dogs that are perfect for your family, look no further than the eight dogs on this list. Each one is small enough to be manageable but has plenty of personality and energy.

1. Welsh Corgi

Welsh Corgi Dog Breed

Welsh Corgis are one of the most popular small dog breeds because they’re so affectionate and lively. They make great family dogs because they’re active but also social, and tend to get along well with other pets and small children. They tend to be around 10-12 inches in height.

2. Miniature Schnauzer

Miniature Schnauzer

These smart little dogs are related to other working breeds, including the Doberman Pinscher and the Standard Schnauzer. They’re athletic and playful, making them great family companions. Miniature Schnauzers typically weigh around 11-17 pounds and stand about 14 inches tall at the shoulder.

3. Papillon

The Papillon is a small, French dog that’s known for its beautiful coat and lively personality. They have long coats that need regular maintenance, but that comes along with the added benefit of their gorgeous appearance. On average, they weigh between 5-10 pounds and are about 10 inches tall at the shoulder.

4. Basset Hound

A Basset Hound may not be the first breed that pops into your mind when you think of small dogs, but these dogs are only about 9 inches tall at the shoulders and typically weigh less than 25 pounds. To be honest, they are actually medium-sized dogs. They’re gentle and loving, making them great family dogs. Basset Hounds are also very active, so be prepared for lots of tail wagging and running around.

5. Chihuahua

These tiny dogs are named “Chihuahua” for a reason – they’re the smallest dog breed in the world. They make great family dogs because they’re relatively low-maintenance and have a lot of personalities. Chihuahuas typically weigh between 2 and 4 pounds and stand about 6 to 9 inches tall at the shoulder.

6. Dachshund

Dachshund

Dachshunds are one of the oldest dog breeds, and they’re known for their jowls and long bodies. They’re independent and intelligent, and often get along well with children and other pets. Dachshunds typically weigh between 10 and 20 pounds and stand about 16 inches tall at the shoulder.

7. Corgi /Cardigan Welsh Corgi mix

Cardigan Welsh Corgi Dog Breed

The Corgi /Cardigan Welsh Corgi mix is a hybrid of the two most popular herding breeds in the UK. They’re intelligent, playful, and friendly, making them great family dogs. They typically weigh between 10 and 20 pounds and stand about 16 inches tall at the shoulder.

8. Pug

Pugs are one of the cutest dog breeds out there. They’re small, but not too small – on average, they weigh between 10 and 15 pounds. Because of their adorable faces and short legs, Pugs may also be prone to some health issues. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be great family dogs.

Before you bring a puppy into your home, it’s a good idea to consider how big the dog will get, how much time you can devote to caring for it, and how much exercise it needs.

Small dogs typically need less exercise than larger breeds, but they still need some outlet for their energy. When considering what type of dog is right for your family, think about things like how much living space you have and your lifestyle.
